Twitter Suspension To Be Lifted By FG In A Matter Of Days - Lai Mohammed

The Federal Government has said it will lift its ban on Twitter, in a matter of days.

This was announced by the Minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed on Wednesday after Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

The honorable minister revealed that an amicable stage of conversation has been reached with the microblogging site and agreement reached in all areas except three.

The remaining three unresolved areas, according to him, are simply a matter of ‘when and not ‘if’ there would be an implementation of conditions discussed.

According to Mr. Mohammed, one of the pending issues is the condition that a legal presence be established in Nigeria by Twitter, registered as a Nigerian company with an office address and employee to serve as a country representative in the country.

Meanwhile, the micro-blogging site has maintained that the earliest it can establish a company in Nigeria is in 2022.

Twitter operations in Nigeria was suspended in June by the Federal Government after a tweet by President Muhammadu Buhari was deleted by the social media platform for breaching the site’s rules.

The Federal Government explained at the time that the suspension had no relationship with the deletion of the President’s tweets.
