It is an undeniable truth that the Distinguished Senator Gershom Bassey, the frontline successor of the soon-to-be concluded Government of Cross River State is the man of the people, not just because of his benevolence but his great contribution towards the growth and development of Cross River State.
Senator Gershom upon his visit to Obudu Local Government in the course of his consultation tour to the Northern Senatorial District of Cross River State was highly welcomed with great eulogy and encomium from the good people of Obudu.
Chairman of The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Obudu chapter Hon. Atsua Francis, in his opening speech, said that Leadership comes from God, and the only thing they can do for the Distinguished Senator is to pray for him and they will continue to pray for him and by the special grace of God, he is going to be the next governor of Cross River State.
Rt. Hon. Dr. Itam Abang, Member Representing Boki 2 at the Cross River State House of Assembly before introducing the incoming Governor of Cross River State, charged the women to support the Eagle of Cross River State, reminding them that they are the neck while the man is the head, and the head cannot function without the neck, hence their support is needed maximally in order to change the narrative of the state.
While introducing the Senator; Hon. Itam Abang acknowledged Him as one of the reasons why PDP is still standing in Cross River State, she went further to tell the people how Gershom Bassey sold his house in London so that PDP could have dominance and stable root in Cross River State, besides his physical inputs to the party and state at large, Senator Bassey contributed immensely towards the emergence of some governors, senators, members of the house of representatives and the house of assembly, etc in Cross River State. He is as well the brain behind many state and federal appointments.
Adding more icing on the cake, she emphasized that Gershom Bassey is not a greenhorn in the business of politics as he has the blueprint of the State and has attained several exalted heights, besides being a two times Senator; he is the chairman of the Senate Committee on FERMA, PDP National Assembly caucus Leader, Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (upstream), Former Chairman of Cross River State Waterboard, etc. He is not just occupying those offices but performing extremely well as a man with technical know-how.
It is so appalling that since he left office as Chairman of Water Board, the office is no longer effective but stagnant.
Indeed, no one currently can match the records of Gershom owing to his administrative acumen both in state and even that of the national level, he is doing well.

Senator Gershom Bassey while addressing the people, he appreciated them for welcoming him, he then told them the reason for his visit, which was to consult them on his aspiration of being the next governor of Cross River State. While speaking to them, he requested for a vote to be passed for or against him to becoming the next governor, indeed it was not surprising that they all voted for him, because they trust that with his expertise in governance, exposure and capacity, he will redeem Cross River State from darkness into light.
He summarized by urging the party faithful that they should remain calm and work with him, that no one has contested election under PDP in Cross River State and lost before. And he added they should follow who knows the way and who can win the election in 2023. He assured them that with him, PDP will win all the elections and he will bring back the lost glory of CRS in terms of tourism, health care services and security.
Conclusively, Rt. Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa, Former House of Representatives Member of Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency further spoke to the people on the need to Vote Senator Gershom Bassey. In his words he said:
"I'm very happy to be here because the man who introduced me is my in-law. I'm here to talk to you about your son, your brother, your neighbour. I'm here to talk to you about the next Governor of Cross River State. This is a man who is among the few persons who started PDP and was the campaign manager of Donald Duke and Liyel Imoke. This is a man who was the engine room of the success gained in the government of Mr. Duke and Sen. Imoke. This quintessential Senator is Gershom Bassey. Thus, Governorship has been rotating from South, Central and North, Gershom with the fruit of peace has waited patiently after the order of equity, fairness and natural justice for the turn of the south again. Even though he wanted contesting before the last administration emerged, he was advised to hold on till it get to the turn of the South, without further argument Gershom agreed to the zoning system in favour of the north, therefore, it is expedient and advisable we all stand by him.
