Following the suspension of Idris Ahmed, over allegations of N80bn fraud, President Buhari has appointed Mr. Anamekwe Chukwunyere Nwabuoku to oversee the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF).
This was disclosed in a statement by the Special Assistant to President on New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi, on Sunday.
According to the statement, Mr. Anamekwe Chukwunyere Nwabuoku who was a former Director of Finance at the Ministry of Defence will oversee the OAGF pending the conclusion of the fraud allegations of Mr. Ahmed Idris by the EFCC.

The statement reads; “Nigeria Government has approved the appointment of Mr. Anamekwe Chukwunyere Nwabuoku to oversee the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), pending the outcome of the EFCC investigation of the suspended AGF.
“Mr. Anamekwe was born in 1962 to the family of Mr. Robert O. Anamekwe in Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State. He is a Fellow, of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN); a Fellow, of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria(CITN), & member of the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).
“He was Director (Finance & Accounts), Ministry of Defence, HQ, Abuja from May 2019 to March 2021.
“He is currently the Director, Inspectorate Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, and is presently overseeing the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.”
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday 16th May 2022, arrested Nigeria’s Accountant-General, Ahmed Idris over alleged money laundering and diversion of public funds to the tune of N80 billion.
He was accused of using several companies allegedly linked to family members and associates to divert the funds.
He was subsequently suspended by the Minister of Finance Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, two days after his arrest.
