Residents block Kaduna-Abuja highway in protest against kidnapping

Residents of Gonin-Gora in Kaduna State barricaded the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway on Thursday to protest the abduction of several people in the area. They called on the government to address the frequent attacks by bandits in the region.

According to eyewitnesses, kidnappers raided the community from Wednesday night into Thursday morning, abducting numerous residents. The attackers operated for over four hours without any intervention from security forces, prompting residents to take to the streets in protest.

"The bandits came around 11:00 pm and terrorized the area for hours. Many residents, including youths, were taken away. We had to block the highway this morning to draw attention to the insecurity in our community," said a resident who witnessed the incident.

Security forces, including the Joint Task Force, were deployed to the scene to manage the situation and restore traffic flow. Some residents have fled the area out of fear of further attacks.

In response, the Kaduna State government cautioned against road blockades and harassment of innocent citizens. The state's Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, emphasized that such actions infringe on the rights of others and disrupt public services. The security council dismantled the roadblocks and ensured the highway was open for commuters.
