Gunmen Kill Two Chinese Nationals, Police Escort in Abia—Police Confirm



The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two Chinese nationals and a police escort following an ambush by gunmen along the Uturu–Aguukwu–Amaya Road in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State.


According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the attack occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2025, while the victims were en route to their company site at Agukwu-Amaya, Ndundu Community.


The victims, identified as Mr. Quan and Mr. Cai—both Chinese nationals—and a police escort, Inspector Audu Saidu, were shot dead during the ambush. The assailants also reportedly made away with the rifle belonging to the slain officer.


“Upon receiving a distress call, the Abia State Police Command, in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, launched an immediate search and rescue operation,” the police said. “Three Chinese nationals were rescued unhurt, though one sustained minor injuries.”


Another police escort, Inspector Uba Ahmed, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, was also evacuated from the scene and is currently receiving treatment.


The statement further noted that a tactical police team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), visited the scene on Friday, April 5, as part of ongoing efforts to secure the area and ensure the safety of the remaining personnel.


During the continued rescue mission, another officer, Inspector Ijeagwa Friday, was located and recovered unharmed, with support from local residents and military personnel.


Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible.
