Adamawa Police Investigate Domestic Killings by 16-Year-Old and Adult Son

YOLA, 30 July 2025 — The Adamawa State Police Command is investigating two tragic incidents of domestic violence that led to the deaths of family members in Madagali and Gombi local government areas.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the first incident occurred in Pallam District, Madagali. A confrontation between two co-wives—55-year-old Rhoda Anthony and 36-year-old Victoria Anthony—reportedly escalated, prompting Victoria’s 16-year-old son, Ijai Anthony, to intervene violently.

According to police investigations, the teenager allegedly struck Rhoda on the head with a piece of wood, causing her to collapse. Officers from the Madagali division swiftly responded and rushed the victim to the Cottage Hospital in Madagali, where she was later confirmed dead during treatment.

The statement confirmed that both the suspect and his mother have been placed under protective custody while investigations continue.

The second case involved a man identified as Idi Buba, who reportedly stabbed his biological father, Buba Jelli, in the neck and back during a domestic dispute in Fotta District, Gombi. The injured man was taken to the Primary Health Care Centre in Fotta but sadly passed away while receiving treatment.

Police officers arrested the suspect at the scene, and the weapon used—a knife—was recovered and will be treated as evidence in the ongoing investigation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has strongly condemned both incidents, calling on residents to exercise restraint and avoid violent confrontations, particularly within family settings. He urged the public to seek peaceful and lawful avenues to resolve disputes.

The Commissioner assured that full investigations are underway and that the suspects will be formally charged upon conclusion of the process.
