The Cross River State Police Command has responded to a viral social media video alleging police brutality, linked to a case involving one Odok Nelson Etta of Bendegraffi Community in Ikom Local Government Area.

According to the Command, on 7 August 2025 at about 14:00 hours, officers moved to arrest the suspect following a report of unlawful possession, stealing, and forcible entry. The suspect resisted arrest and engaged the policemen in a scuffle, which led to a gunshot injury to his leg. He was rushed to the hospital for medical attention and is currently receiving treatment and responding.

A public-spirited indigene who was conversant with the matter assisted the police with information that led to the recovery of dangerous weapons from a bush where they were hidden. The items recovered include an unlicensed single-barrel gun and two machetes. The exhibits have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) for detailed investigation.

The Command’s clarification follows the viral allegation by MC Okirika and is issued under the authority of the Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, psc, mnips.
