CP Cross River Presents Over ₦29 Million to Families of Fallen Officers in Calabar On Behalf of The Inspector General of Police

CALABAR, 13 August 2025 — In a heartfelt ceremony held at the Cross River State Police Headquarters, the Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, PSC, mnips, presented cheques totalling ₦29,576,742.56 to families of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty on behalf of the Inspector General of Police.

The event, marked by solemn reflection and compassion, began with an opening prayer led by Mrs Margaret Bullem, followed by a minute of silence in honour of the fallen officers.

Addressing the gathering, CP Afegbua expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirmed the commitment of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, Ph.D, to the welfare of police personnel and their loved ones. “This is a gesture of honour and support for those who gave their lives in service to the nation,” he said.

Of the total amount presented, ₦27,876,742.56 was disbursed under the Group Life Assurance Scheme, while ₦1,700,000.00 was provided through the Inspector General’s Family Welfare Scheme.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Master Wisdom Iwara delivered a touching vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Nigeria Police Force for its continued support and recognition of their loved ones’ sacrifice.

The ceremony concluded with a closing prayer by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Investigation, DCP Ibrahim Argungu, followed by a group photograph with the families and senior officers.

This presentation highlights the Police Force’s ongoing commitment to honouring its fallen heroes and supporting the families they leave behind.
