BOKI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, 7 August 2025 — Security forces in Cross River State have recovered five locally made guns, expended cartridges and an array of crude weapons following a targeted raid on a suspected criminal camp in Iso-Bendeghe.
The operation was mounted in response to an attack on a patrol vehicle belonging to the 75 PMF Patrol Team at about 11:45 pm on 5 August. Although the vehicle sustained damage, none of the officers on board were injured.
Commissioner of Police Rashid Bello Afegbua immediately ordered a joint operation in the forest where the assailants were thought to be hiding. A combined unit of the 75 PMF Patrol Team and soldiers from the 245 Battalion in Ikom, under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer of the Boki Division, swept through an abandoned hospital now overgrown in bush.

Confronted by the arrival of uniformed personnel, the suspects fled into the undergrowth, abandoning their camp and leaving behind five improvised firearms, numerous spent cartridges, machetes, clubs, motorcycles, cooking utensils and other charms believed to be used in violent activities.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Ugbo Irene, the Commissioner warned that, while the State Government pursues peace between the area’s two warring communities, any attack on security officers would not be tolerated. He assured law-abiding residents that normal life could resume safely, with adequate security measures in place.
The raid underscores the Cross River State Police Command’s commitment to cracking down on violent elements and safeguarding communities across the region.
