Ondo Governor Rewards Super Falcons Star with ₦30m and House

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has honoured Super Falcons defender Tosin Demehin with ₦30 million and a house for her role in Nigeria’s triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The announcement came on Monday during a civic reception in Akure for Ondo indigenes who were part of the victorious squad. Demehin, from Ilaje Local Government Area, was praised as a symbol of talent, discipline, and resilience.

“This is a proud moment for us,” Aiyedatiwa said. “As a token of our appreciation, the state government is awarding her ₦30 million and a house at Sunshine Estate, Oba-Ile.”

The governor also recognised the efforts of team media officer Mary Akinsola and team secretary Mary Oduboku, awarding them ₦15 million each. Both are from the southern senatorial district of the state and were commended for their contributions to the team’s success.

Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development and youth empowerment, pledging continued investment in young talent and support for Sunshine Stars Football Club’s return to Nigeria’s premier league.

He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for honouring the Super Falcons nationally, noting the positive effect such gestures have on athletes’ morale.

In her response, Demehin expressed deep gratitude to the governor and the people of Ondo State. “Receiving this honour from my home state means the world to me,” she said. A former Sunshine Queens player, she stressed the importance of supporting women’s football. She urged stakeholders to help drive its growth, adding that the success of Nigerian football—male or female—is a shared responsibility.
