Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect, Recover Pistol and Hard Drugs in Calabar

CALABAR, 15 August 2025 — The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber in Calabar and recovered a firearm and hard drugs following a swift response to a distress call.

According to the Command, a community leader from Edim Otop Street, Calabar, reported an armed robbery at about 10:47 am on Friday, 15 August 2025. The Command’s Anti-Cultism Squad was immediately mobilised to the scene, where one Daniel Etim Udoh, a 25-year-old male, had allegedly robbed and stabbed his victim, Mr Sunday Ofem of No. 6 Boropit, Satellite Town. The suspect was arrested.

A search was conducted on the suspect. The following items were recovered:

  • A locally made pistol
  • One live cartridge
  • A pair of scissors believed to have been used during the attack
  • Assorted hard drugs
  • Other incriminating items

The Command stated that, on arrival at the station, “the suspect took to his heels with a view of escaping during interrogation,” and “he was shot on his left leg, which enabled his re-arrest.” The statement added: “Both victim and suspect were taken to the police clinic and are responding to treatment.” An investigation has commenced.




The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, PSC, mnips, commended the officers involved for their quick response and unwavering commitment to ensuring public safety. He reiterated the Command’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements and urged citizens to continue partnering with the police by providing timely and credible information.
