Cross River Government and NDDC Inaugurate ICT Centre and Hostel at College of Nursing, Obudu

6th September, 2025 - Obudu, Cross River State – The Cross River State Government, in partnership with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), today formally opened a new Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre and hostel accommodations at the College of Nursing Sciences, Obudu.

Representing Governor Bassey Edet Otu, the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Elder Dr Henry Ayuk, praised Arch Clement Udie—a native of Obudu and long-serving NDDC staff member—for spearheading the project. Dr Ayuk described the facilities as “a demonstration of love for our motherland and a testament to community unity.”

Dr Ayuk reiterated Governor Otu’s commitment to extending healthcare services and infrastructure to every senatorial district. “We will continue to build health centres, provide funds and resources, and support institutions that train our healthcare workers,” he said. He also commended the college’s management for completing several on-campus projects, including the Registry Department, Classroom Block, Bursary and Conference Centre.

During the ceremony, Dr Ayuk officially commissioned each of these newly refurbished spaces, noting that they would significantly enhance the institution’s ability to train nursing professionals.

Mr Coco-Bassey Esu

Mr Coco-Bassey Esu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Nursing, thanked Governor Otu for his “unwavering support for nursing education and training.” Addressing guests, he said:

“Distinguished guests, esteemed members of the community, representatives of the NDDC and fellow healthcare professionals, it is an honour to stand before you today. This momentous occasion marks a significant milestone in our collective pursuit of excellence in healthcare delivery.”

Mr Esu added that the new ICT centre and hostel would provide nursing students with modern learning tools and comfortable accommodation, thereby improving their overall academic experience.

Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonge Undiandeye, Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government, paid tribute to both the government and community leaders for attracting such vital projects. He assured residents that “with continuous support, the government will deliver further resources to sustain these developments.”

Dr (Mrs) Victoria Undeshi, Provost of the College of Nursing Sciences Obudu, expressed her gratitude to Arch Udie, the state government and community stakeholders for securing 7.3 hectares of land—well above the five hectares required by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). “Our students will greatly appreciate these new facilities and the additional land for future expansion,” she said.

The event brought together religious leaders, traditional chiefs, community elders, staff and students, all of whom welcomed the improvements. Many expressed optimism that the enhanced infrastructure would strengthen healthcare training and, ultimately, improve patient care across Cross River State.

Today's commissioning marks a key step in the state’s broader strategy to bolster medical education and service delivery, reflecting a shared vision between government, the NDDC and local communities to advance healthcare standards in the region.
