Calabar, 13 October 2025 — In a swift and decisive operation, the Cross River State Police Command has apprehended a suspect linked to an armed robbery involving a high-end vehicle stolen from neighbouring Akwa Ibom State. The breakthrough, hailed as a testament to the force’s growing intelligence-led policing strategy, unfolded late on Sunday, 12 October, when officers from the Akamkpa Division intercepted a stolen ash-coloured Lexus RX300 bearing registration number ETN-683-AA.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ugbo Irene, the vehicle had been snatched at gunpoint in Akwa Ibom before being driven into Cross River territory. Acting on credible intelligence provided by Divisional Police Officer Anthony Williams, a patrol team from Akamkpa responded and successfully recovered the vehicle along a rural route.
During the operation, police arrested one suspect—whose identity has not yet been disclosed—and recovered a locally fabricated pistol as well as two Android smartphones. “Three other accomplices managed to flee into nearby bushland,” SP Irene confirmed, adding that a manhunt is now underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Authorities are also working diligently to trace and reunite the luxury SUV with its rightful owner. While details surrounding the original robbery remain under investigation, the recovery marks a significant win for law enforcement in a region increasingly vigilant against cross-border criminal activity.
State Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afeghua, PSC, MNIPS, commended the Akamkpa Division for their “swift response and unwavering vigilance.” In his remarks, he reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professional policing and public safety. “Our officers and men will continue to operate with the highest level of professionalism to ensure Cross River remains a safe and secure environment for all residents and visitors alike,” he said.
The suspect remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
