| Rev. Dr Joseph Ushie |
The sermon by Rev. Dr Joseph Ushie, was a heartfelt reminder
of one of the simplest yet most powerful instructions in the Bible — “Let
brotherly love continue.” (Hebrews 13:1). The message, though short,
carried a depth that called every believer to examine the sincerity of their
love and devotion to both God and fellow men.
Rev. Ushie began by noting that when God wants to deliver a striking
message, He often keeps it short and direct. This, he explained, ensures that
everyone — regardless of age or background — can understand and live by it.
Love, he emphasised, is what binds believers together and sustains the
fellowship of the saints. No matter the challenges or misunderstandings that
may arise, that bond of love must remain unbroken.
He cautioned that those who decide to serve God wholeheartedly may sometimes
face discouragement or disappointment within the church. “When you begin to see
things that derail you,” he said, “it’s a sign that your focus is shifting from
the cross to the outward.” The solution, he added, is to keep your gaze fixed
on Christ while allowing love to lead your actions.
Rev. Ushie also spoke about the importance of truthfulness in a world filled
with deceit. “The world is so full of lies that honest people are often taken
for granted,” he lamented. Yet, he urged believers to remain truthful, no
matter the cost, as integrity still matters deeply to God.
Another key point in the message was the need for discernment. In today’s
complex and morally confused world, every child of God, he said, must possess
the spirit of discernment to live effectively and make wise decisions.
Concluding his message, Rev. Ushie reminded the congregation that everything
we do is recorded and will speak for us on the last day. He encouraged everyone
not to let anything hinder them from doing what is right at all times.
It was a simple but soul-searching sermon — a call to love genuinely, live
truthfully, discern rightly, and keep one’s eyes fixed on the cross.
