LAGOS - Lagride, Lagos' leading smart mobility platform, has unveiled its new 'Omni' service – an affordable, air-conditioned shared-ride solution designed to revolutionise group transportation across Nigeria's bustling commercial capital.
The service targets offices, churches, schools, and communities seeking safer and more comfortable alternatives to the traditional Korope minibuses that form the backbone of Lagos' transport system. Unlike conventional shared transport options, the Lagride Omni offers direct, zero-stop journeys at prices significantly lower than standard taxis or ride-hailing services.
Early users have embraced the service not only for its cost-effectiveness but for the comfort of air-conditioned travel and the convenience of moving with friends, family or colleagues in a single, coordinated vehicle. Each Omni vehicle accommodates up to six passengers and can be booked through the Lagride app by individuals or group organisers.
Chief Diana Chen, Chairman of Lagride, positioned the launch as part of a broader mission to transform mobility in Africa's most populous city.
"Mobility is one of the greatest drivers of opportunity," Chen explained at the service launch. "By making modern transport affordable and accessible to every segment of society, Lagride is helping to build a more connected Lagos where movement creates meaning and community thrives."
The vehicles combine modern amenities with practical design – all are fully air-conditioned, GPS-enabled, and operated by drivers certified through the Lagride Academy, which maintains strict safety and customer service standards.
Mr Jubril Arogundade, Acting Managing Director of Lagride, highlighted how the service responds to the everyday needs of Lagos commuters. "With the Lagride Omni, one person can make a single booking and everyone joins the same ride," he said. "From offices to churches and community events, this is how Lagos will move together safely, conveniently, and in comfort."
The service accommodates Lagos' fast-paced lifestyle with spacious seating, flexible route coordination, and climate-controlled interiors. Organisations can now arrange group transportation without relying on multiple taxis or unregulated buses. Booking options include the Lagride app or WhatsApp for bulk and event reservations, with payment methods spanning corporate billing, pre-paid options, and cashless transactions.
In a move that combines transport innovation with social impact, Lagride announced plans to recruit 1,000 new drivers for the expanding Omni fleet. Each will receive professional training through the Lagride Academy, established in partnership with the Lagos State Government and transport safety authorities, including LASTMA.
"This initiative is both a transport innovation and an empowerment programme," Arogundade noted. "We are creating opportunities for Lagosians to earn a sustainable income while providing a better commuting experience for everyone. The Omni combines innovation with inclusion, and its impact will be felt across every community in the city."
The launch represents a significant step in Lagride's ambition to reshape urban mobility in Lagos, offering a middle ground between expensive private transport and the often uncomfortable shared options that most residents currently depend upon.
