Police Arrest Suspected Cultist, Pledge Crime-Free Carnival in Calabar

Calabar, 9 December 2025The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a suspected cult member in Calabar as part of ongoing efforts to ensure a peaceful and crime-free festive season.

Police operatives apprehended the suspect, identified as Michael Michael Edoh of No. 136 IBB Way, along Jonathan Bypass by the Garment Factory, during a routine stop-and-search operation. Officers reportedly found a locally made pistol and three live cartridges in his possession.

According to the command’s spokesperson, CSP Ugbo Irene, the suspect admitted ownership of the firearm and confessed to being a member of the Viking cult group during interrogation.

Commissioner of Police Rashid B. Afegbua, PSC, mnips, commended the officers for their vigilance, noting that increased police visibility through patrols and stop-and-search operations at identified flashpoints has been instrumental in keeping crime rates low across the state.



He assured residents that the command remains committed to maintaining law and order throughout the ongoing Carnival Calabar festivities.



“The people of Cross River State can look forward to a peaceful and enjoyable carnival period,” the Commissioner said.

The Cross River Police Command reiterated its call for public cooperation and vigilance, urging citizens to report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police formation.
