Tinubu Approves Four Ambassador-Designates for Key Diplomatic Missions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

22 January 2026 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of four ambassador-designates to important diplomatic missions in France, the United States, the United Kingdom and Turkey, the presidency announced on Thursday.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Tinubu’s approvals are drawn from the list of 68 ambassadorial nominees previously confirmed by the Senate in December.

Among those appointed is Ambassador Ayodele Oke, who will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to France. Colonel Lateef Are has been named ambassador-designate to the United States of America.

Also confirmed is Ambassador Amin Dalhatu as high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom. Mr Dalhatu, a former Nigerian envoy to South Korea, brings prior diplomatic experience to the post.

The fourth appointment is Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, a former governor of Kebbi State, who has been designated ambassador to Turkey. The posting comes ahead of a state visit to Ankara by President Tinubu, expected to take place next week, according to the statement.

In a memo to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Tinubu directed that the governments of the four host countries be formally notified of the ambassador-designates in accordance with established diplomatic procedures.

The appointments signal a continued effort by the Nigerian government to strengthen its diplomatic presence and engagement with key global partners.
