The Cross River State Government has reaffirmed its readiness to support individuals and organisations contributing to the development of the state’s healthcare system.
This assurance was given by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Elder Dr Henry Egbe Ayuk, represented by the Governor’s Special Assistant on Nursing, Mr Coco-Bassey Esu, during the groundbreaking ceremony for a new health post and community outreach centre in Etak Ukana, Akpabuyo Local Government Area.
The facility is an initiative of the Lions Clubs International through the Calabar Nightingale Lions Club. The project is designed to help reduce mortality and neonatal deaths within the host community. The state government has pledged its support towards the successful completion and operation of the centre.
Among dignitaries present at the ceremony were Lion Roseline Nsa, President of Calabar Nightingale Lions Club; Hon Daniel Effiong, representing the Executive Chairman of Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Hon Prince Effiom Bassey Effiong; Ms Antan Okor, Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Orientation; Comrade Monday Anake, representing the State Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives; Comrade Josephine Bassey; His Royal Highness Effanga Etim, Village Head of Etak Ukana; Lion Ezekiel Umoh; Lion Sunday Eloma, representing the District Governor of Lions District 404 A2 Nigeria; Lion Dr Ndabu Bassey Okon Bassey; Lion Robert Antigha, Guiding Lion of Calabar Nightingale Lions Club; and Lion Elder Enobong Okon, Service Chairperson and Project Coordinator of the club.
The ceremony underscores the state government’s commitment to improving access to healthcare through partnerships with non-governmental organisations and community stakeholders.
