The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has cautioned travellers against filming or taking photographs of other passengers at airports without their consent.
In a statement on Thursday, FAAN emphasised that capturing images of fellow travellers without permission constitutes a violation of personal privacy and could expose offenders to legal action. The authority said the warning was issued to promote respect and consideration among air travellers.
FAAN explained that passengers should always seek consent before recording or photographing others in airport terminals, boarding lounges, departure halls or other public aviation spaces. It stressed that unrestricted recording could breach individual rights and cause discomfort.
Airport officials said the measure is intended to foster a more pleasant and secure airport environment as passenger numbers continue to grow across the nation’s aviation hubs. FAAN also urged members of the public to report any concerns involving intrusive filming to airport security personnel.
The authority’s message comes amid rising use of smartphones and digital cameras, which has made it easier to record people in public places often without their awareness or approval.
FAAN said it remains committed to ensuring that all travellers feel safe and respected during their time at Nigeria’s airports.
