At least one person has been confirmed dead following a violent communal clash in Kebbi State, with police authorities saying the situation has now been brought under control.
The unrest occurred in Alwasa village, located in Argungu Local Government Area, during the Sallah celebrations on Monday, March 23, 2026. What reportedly began as a confrontation among youths quickly escalated into a broader conflict, leaving several people injured.
According to the Kebbi State Police Command, one of the injured victims later died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Argungu. The death is said to have triggered a reprisal attack, which further worsened the violence and resulted in additional casualties.
Police spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed that security operatives were swiftly deployed to the troubled area, alongside reinforcement teams, to contain the situation. He stated that normalcy has since been restored, with officers maintaining a presence in the community to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
Authorities have also launched a full investigation into the incident, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, condemned the clash and warned that individuals found engaging in violent or unlawful acts would face decisive action. He also urged residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
Security operations remain ongoing in the area as officials continue to monitor the situation and work towards preventing further escalation.
