Police Secure Three Bomb Explosion Scenes In Maiduguri

Security operatives have secured three locations in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, after suspected suicide bomb explosions struck parts of the city, prompting emergency response operations and heightened security across the area.

According to the Borno State Police Command, the explosions occurred on Monday evening at three key locations in the metropolis:

  • The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH)

  • The Maiduguri Monday Market

  • The Post Office Flyover

Police said explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) teams were immediately deployed to the sites to secure the areas and conduct clearance operations to prevent further danger.

Emergency Response and Casualties

Initial reports indicate that the blasts caused casualties, although authorities had yet to confirm the exact number of victims at the time of reporting. Witnesses described chaotic scenes as injured persons were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Emergency responders and volunteers were said to have transported many of the wounded to hospitals, particularly the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where medical teams worked to stabilise victims.

Police Operations and Public Advisory

The police confirmed that security personnel had successfully secured the affected locations and commenced clearance operations to ensure there were no additional explosive devices in the vicinity.

Authorities also urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, advising the public to report any suspicious movements or objects to security agencies.

Governor Condemns Attack

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum condemned the explosions, describing the attack as a tragic act of violence against innocent civilians. He called for unity among residents and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening security across the state.

Renewed Security Concerns

The incident has raised fresh concerns about security in northeastern Nigeria, a region that has faced years of insurgent violence linked to extremist groups such as Boko Haram and its splinter factions.

Although Maiduguri has experienced relative calm in recent months, the latest explosions highlight the continuing security challenges confronting the region.

Security forces have since intensified patrols and surveillance operations across the city while investigations continue to determine those responsible for the attack
