The Academic Staff Union of Universities has threatened to embark on an industrial action at a Kebbi State university over unresolved staff welfare issues and outstanding entitlements.
The union’s branch at Adamu Augie University, Kebbi, issued the warning amid growing concerns over the non-implementation of approved remuneration packages and delays in the payment of earned allowances.
According to the union, failure by the Kebbi State Government and relevant authorities to address the lingering issues could trigger a strike that may disrupt academic activities at the institution.
Sources within the union indicated that key demands include the full implementation of salary structures, settlement of outstanding entitlements, and improved welfare conditions for academic staff.
The development reflects wider tensions within Nigeria’s university system, where disputes over funding, salaries, and working conditions have historically led to frequent industrial actions.
ASUU has maintained that unresolved welfare issues continue to undermine staff morale and the quality of education in public universities, warning that it may be forced to take decisive action if authorities fail to respond.
The threat raises fresh concerns over potential disruptions to the academic calendar, as students and stakeholders await further developments on the matter.
