The Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Nursing, Dr Esu Coco-Bassey today joined the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Cross River State Chapter, in a spirited match past to commemorate the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration, where the association clinched 1st position for its outstanding performance.
Clad in crisp colorful uniforms and marching with precision, the nurses and midwives commanded attention at the May Day parade ground. Their flawless coordination, discipline, and elegance drew cheers from dignitaries, workers, and spectators, earning them the top spot among all participating unions.
The victory was described as a powerful display of the uniformity, oneness, unity, and beauty that define the nursing profession.
Speaking after the parade, Dr Esu Coco-Bassey praised NANNM members for their exceptional outing and show of solidarity.
“Today’s 1st position is more than a trophy. It is a statement to the world about who nurses are. What we witnessed was unity of purpose, discipline, and pride. NANNM has shown that when nurses move as one, we win as one. This is the beauty of our profession in action,” Dr Coco-Bassey said.
The SA Nursing added that the performance reflects the renewed morale and professional pride among nurses and midwives in Cross River State under the administration of His Excellency, Apostle Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, who continues to demonstrate strong support for the nursing community.
The 2026 Workers’ Day celebration, themed Social Justice and Decent Work for All featured colourful match pasts by labour unions across the state. NANNM was adjudged best overall for coordination, appearance, and discipline.
