President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on African nations to deepen economic integration and focus on processing their own natural resources instead of depending heavily on foreign markets.
Tinubu made the remarks while leading Nigeria’s government, diplomatic and business delegation to the Africa Forward Summit held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi.
According to a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the Nigerian leader stressed the importance of policies that prioritise Africa’s industrial growth, economic prosperity and global competitiveness.
Tinubu said Africa possesses enormous natural and human resources but continues to lose economic opportunities because many countries export raw materials instead of developing local industries capable of adding value to those resources.
He argued that the continent must move beyond dependence on external economies and focus on building industries that can compete globally while creating jobs and wealth within Africa.
The president also highlighted Nigeria’s blue economy potential as an important driver for Africa’s future economic expansion, noting that stronger regional cooperation and investment in infrastructure could help unlock broader opportunities across the continent.
Tinubu’s comments come amid growing calls for African countries to reduce reliance on exporting crude minerals and agricultural products while importing finished goods at higher costs.
The Africa Forward Summit brought together political leaders, diplomats and business executives to discuss economic transformation, industrialisation and regional cooperation across Africa.
