Former Military Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (retd), has died of Covid-19 complications.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem said Nkanga died on Thursday, December 24.
Until his death on Christmas eve, Nkanga was Chairman of the Ibom Air Airlines as well as President, Pan Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF).
Already, Governor Udom Emmanuel, has declared a seven day period of mourning effective Saturday, 26th December, 2020 with flags flown at half mast for the entire duration of the mourning in the state.
Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga was Governor of Akwa Ibom State from September 1990 to January 1992 during the regime of General Ibrahim Babangida.
