Atan Onoyong Stands still As Ayade Aide Presents Relief Materials and Other Hamper Packages including free education to Community.


It was a rousing welcome in Atan Onoyom as the Community stood still to welcome and celebrate Ayade's Aide and Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, as she joined her kingsmen in celebrating the annual Atan Onoyom day, aimed at fostering peace, unity and seeking ways of developing the community.


The DG who arrived the Riverine Community via a ferry boat, brought alongside with her, foodstuffs, some personal protective equipments, hospital and sanitary materials for Distribution to members of the community which she said was made possible through the efforts of the state Governor, Senator Prof. Ben Ayade.


Addressing the gathering made up of chiefs and Village heads, Dr Janet Ekpenyong noted that, the Government is more concerned on the welfare of its people as it has been demonstrated in the many interventions and human capital Development initiatives currently ongoing across the state .


She noted that though Government has the mechanism to make policies for the people, the cooperation and expertise of the traditional institutions cannot be neglected and thus, the visit to the community to seek support for Government on all areas of Development with health being her priority.



Dr Ekpenyong further noted that she was on ground to sensitize and coordinate the day's activities as partain the health and safety of the people which includes: to ensure that there is compliance with the laid down Covid19 pandemic protocols and to raise awareness on the need to maintain consciousness especially as the Federal Government announces the second wave of the Covid19 virus across the country.


"Basically, we are here to ensure that their is 100% compliance on the safety measures as directed by the government, because of how much value our people place on this Festival, and since there is no restriction of movement so far, we are aware that many people travelled from different states and as such we cannot ascertain their status and so it's important to bring the message of sensitization to you all and to encourage you to help halt the spread of the virus by regularly washing their hands with soap and water, use of hand sanitizer and the compulsory use of face masks".


The DG however pledged her support to the Development of the community adopting Education as her core area of needs as she announced plans to upset the academic bills of all pupils in the school as well as in the provision of stationaries and other essential needs of the pupils.


"I am aware that we have many challenges here, but I know that for any society to grow, the Education of our people must be taken into full consideration, and that is why, I have decided today to upset the academic bills of all the children in this Community and also provide them with stationaries to encourage parents to send their wards to school".


Speaking on behalf of the Traditional Rulers, the clan head of Eniong, Chief Francis Effiom Idim applauded the DG for her show of love and magnanimity which he said is worth emulating.


He thanked the state Governor, Senator Ben Ayade for appointing their daughter and for the numerous good deeds all across the state.



Some of the beneficiaries who spoke, described the act as a total show of love and selflessness which they say will linger in their heart for a very long time.


Highlight of the occasion was the handing over of the relief materials to the community for onward sharing to various groups.
