JUST IN: Suspend Companies Guilty Of Importing Adulterated Petrol - Nigerian Lawmakers Tells Petroleum Corporation, NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited has been asked by the House of Representatives to suspend the companies involved in the importation of methanol-blended Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol.

The resolution was passed during the plenary session on Thursday following the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Mohammed Monguno.

The lower legislative chamber also asked the NNPC to provide the names of the companies to its committee for investigation.

NNPC boss Mele Kyari had in a statement by the company’s spokesman, Garba Deen Muhammad said that MRS, Oando, Duke Oil and a consortium of consisting Emadeb/Hyde/AY Maikifi/Brittania-U were responsible for bringing in the fuel.

"The quality certificates issued at load port in Antwerp by AmSpec Belgium indicated that the petrol complied with Nigerian specifications," Kyari said. 

He noted that the corporation received a report from its quality inspector on January 20, on the presence of emulsion particles in PMS cargoes shipped to Nigeria from Antwerp.

He said further investigations revealed the presence of methanol in four PMS cargoes imported by MRS, Oando, Duke Oil and the Emadeb/Hyde/AY Maikifi/Brittania-U consortium.
