Southern Youths Coalition Sue for Northern Deputy Governor

Arising from the political permutations regarding who becomes Deputy Governor, a political youth group, the Southern Youths Coalition have called on the leadership of the Cross River APC to look towards the Northern Senatorial district for a suitable candidate.

Speaking to newsmen, after a brainstorming session with members across the 7 LGA's of the Southern Senatorial district, Comrade Oqua Edem, the Director General of the group said Gov. Ben Ayade has discharged equity and fairness by ensuring the APC's flagbearer comes to the South, a move which has printed has name in gold for standing for justice. He said, the PDP, on the other hand, out of disunity and desperation went against equity and ended up with a flagbearer from the Central.

Edem said, the implication of having the PDP flagbearer from the Central with a possible Deputy from the South, leaves the North open for the APC to take advantage of. He noted that the alignment of the South with the North is necessary to give the party an overwhelming victory at the polls.

In his analysis of the three possible nominees, Sen. Stephen Odey, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey and Mr. Godwin Nyiam; Comrade Edem said Sen. Stephen Odey is known statewide and nationally having served as the Cross River State SUBEB chairman and has interfaced with Teachers across the State, with recorded successes in the sector. He contested for the Senatorial seat and won in all the 5 LGA's in the Northern Senatorial district and served in the red chambers of the Nigeria Senate. Therefore, He is not just limited to Yala LGA alone but has structures across the Northern Senatorial district.

Rt. Hon. Peter Odey is the leader of the Cross River State House of Assembly, he represents Ogoja State constituency. He is a young cerebral politician but is only limited to Ogoja LGA alone where he represents. In the last House of Reps bye election, he lost in his  polling unit, leaving a strong question mark on the quality of his representation which led to his rejection at the polls. He lacks the political spread needed for votes and should not be considered for this level of responsibility.

Mr. Godwin Nyiam is the current Director General, Road Transport Regulatory Management Agency, TRAMA. A young enterprising politician with good prospects. His only administrative experience is his current appointment as DG of TRAMA. He has never contested an election and is a green horn in the political scene with zero or no political structures. At best he should be considered for political appointment and not the exalted office of Deputy Governor.

In conclusion, having analysized the three possible nominees from the North, Comrade Oqua Edem said Sen. Stephen Odey was the most qualified for the position of Deputy Governor because of his political spread, experience and maturity. Secondly, he said Yala LGA has the highest number of Votes in the North as opposed to Ogoja LGA where the other nominees come from. He said votes from only two wards in Yala can sum up the entire votes from Ogoja LGA. He noted that Sen. Stephen Odey as deputy governor will give the party a bountiful harvest of votes from the region.

Sen. Stephen Odey is a reputable Lawyer and will compliment Senator (Prince) Bassey Otu who is a foremost banker, he said.

He called on the leadership of the Party particularly Gov. Ben Ayade to consider Sen. Stephen Odey as the Deputy Governor nominee for Cross River State APC to ensure a seamless victory at the polls.
