Super Eagles' Triumph: Shettima Assures Government Reward for AFCON Finalists



Vice President Kashim Shettima convened a meeting with the Super Eagles following their victorious encounter against South Africa's Bafana Bafana, promising the Federal Government's recognition and reward for their "commitment and dedication."


The Super Eagles made this announcement via an official statement and accompanying photos posted on their verified social media account early Thursday.


The statement conveyed, "The Federal Government has pledged to reward the Super Eagles for their remarkable commitment and dedication in reaching the finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.


"Vice President Kashim Shettima, in the dressing room after their hard-fought victory over South Africa in the semi-finals on Wednesday, expressed the pride of the government and people of Nigeria in their achievement.


"The VP was joined by Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) and Duoye Diri (Bayelsa), Minister for Youths, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim, along with prominent figures including oil magnate Wale Tinubu, FIFA Council member Amaju Pinnick, and NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau."


PUNCH Online reported that the Super Eagles of Nigeria secured their spot in the tournament final by defeating South Africa's Bafana Bafana 4-2 on penalties.


Nigeria boasts the record for the highest number of appearances in the AFCON semi-finals, having participated 15 times.
