Governor Ademola Adeleke |
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Civil Societies, Mr. Emmanuel Adebisi, over allegations of diverting 70 bags of rice. The suspension follows claims by the state's civil society coalition, represented by its Secretary, Mr. Olowu Emmanuel, that the rice meant for their organization was never delivered.
Mr. Olowu stated that since the current administration took office, nothing intended for civil societies, including palliatives meant to alleviate people's suffering, had been delivered. This includes the 70 bags of rice that were allegedly diverted by the governor's aide under the pretense of delivering them to the civil society coalition office.
Despite the suspension, Mr. Adebisi denied the allegations on his verified Facebook page, asserting that the claims were false. He maintained that he continues to serve as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor and denied any involvement in the alleged diversion of the rice. He suggested that the accusations were the work of some disgruntled politicians and challenged anyone with evidence against him to come forward.
However, a statement from the spokesperson for Governor Adeleke, Mr. Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the suspension. According to the statement, the governor directed the immediate suspension of Mr. Adebisi pending the outcome of an investigation led by the Chief of Staff to the State Governor, Mr. Kazeem Akinleye.
This situation underscores the ongoing scrutiny and accountability measures within the administration as they investigate the alleged misconduct. The governor's decision to suspend his aide highlights the seriousness with which the administration is taking the allegations and its commitment to addressing any issues of corruption or mismanagement.
