FG to Implement Updated Secondary School Curriculum by September 2024

Prof. Tahir Mamman

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced on Thursday that a new curriculum will be introduced for secondary schools across the nation by September 2024. This statement was made during the ongoing 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) policy meeting in Abuja.

Prof. Mamman highlighted that efforts have been underway for the past year to develop this new curriculum. He also mentioned that a stakeholders' meeting is scheduled for August 6, 2024, to finalize the details.

"Our goal is to have this new curriculum implemented in all schools, both public and private, by September," Mamman stated.

Recently, the National Senior Secondary School Education Commission expressed concern over the poor state of senior secondary schools in the country. They emphasized the need for collaboration to address various challenges facing secondary education.

The commission identified several issues, including inadequate infrastructure, unqualified teachers, outdated curriculum, and poorly maintained libraries and laboratories. They stressed the importance of updating the curriculum to meet current educational standards.

Further details will be provided as they become available.
