August 27, 2025 - In a bold move to tackle fraudulent activities in Nigeria’s housing sector, the Federal Government has launched a new digital platform designed to empower citizens to report housing-related fraud, submit supporting evidence, and monitor the progress of their complaints.
The initiative, announced by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (FMHUD), introduces the Housing Fraud Reporting Portal, a user-friendly website accessible at https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng. The portal offers Nigerians a secure space to flag suspicious practices within housing estates across the country.
According to the Ministry, complaints submitted through the portal will be reviewed in collaboration with professional bodies, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary. The goal is to ensure that fraudulent actors are held accountable and that citizens are protected from exploitation.
“The platform allows users to submit complaints and share relevant evidence on fraudulent practices in the real estate sector,” the Ministry stated. It emphasized that such misconduct will no longer be tolerated and that offenders will face legal consequences.
The launch event featured technical demonstrations by Freestone Investments Limited and Prunedge Development Technologies Limited, the consultants behind the portal’s development.
In addition to the fraud-reporting system, the Ministry also introduced the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS). This second platform is designed to enhance transparency in housing project execution by enabling real-time tracking of contractor performance, storing project documents, and evaluating progress against key benchmarks.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, described the dual launch as a step in line with the 2012 National Housing Policy. He highlighted the policy’s emphasis on regulating the housing industry, certifying estate developers, and safeguarding citizens from fraudulent practices.
“The policy calls for a robust administrative, legal, and regulatory framework to oversee housing delivery and ensure professionals in the built environment are properly registered,” Dangiwa said.
Dr. Marcus Amiolemen, Deputy Director and Head of the Ministry’s ICT Department, added that the platforms reflect the Ministry’s commitment to improving service delivery and protecting the public. He noted that the fraud portal was developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure effective case tracking and resolution.
With these tools now in place, the Federal Government aims to restore trust in the housing sector and promote accountability across real estate transactions nationwide.
