BHG-InfoDesk reports that, in a demonstration of proactive and intelligence-led policing, officers of the Cross River State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) apprehended a man in possession of a locally fabricated firearm and live cartridges in Ikom Local Government Area.

At approximately 08:45 on 27 August, RRS operatives conducting a routine stop-and-search along the Edor–Ogoja Highway intercepted Mr Ebase Akuba, a male from Edor community. A subsequent search uncovered a single-barrel, locally made gun and three live cartridges concealed on his person. The suspect was immediately taken into custody for further investigation.

During interrogation, Mr Akuba “confessed to the unlawful possession of the weapon,” police sources confirmed. He remains in custody and will be charged to court once enquiries conclude.

Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, lauded the RRS team for their professionalism and reiterated that “the Command will not allow the brandishing of unlicensed weapons in the state under my watch.” He urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to their nearest police station.
