31 August 2025 – Ikom, Cross River State

The Cross River State Police Command has made another breakthrough in its ongoing campaign to reduce the circulation of illegal firearms across the state.

In the early hours of Sunday, 31 August 2025, at approximately 1:43am, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Ikom Unit, acting on credible intelligence, carried out a search operation at the residence of Mr Ewa Eben, aged 61, in Abu Emeh village, Ikom, located in Boki Local Government Area.

The operation led to the recovery of a cache of weapons, including one English double-barrel gun, four locally fabricated firearms, a machete, and 128 live cartridges. According to police sources, the suspect confessed to owning and possessing the recovered items and has since been taken into custody as investigations continue.

Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, PSC, mnips, commended the RRS team for their swift and professional response. “Their doggedness and commitment to duty are commendable,” he said, adding that the Command remains focused on curbing the proliferation of arms, especially as the ember months approach—a period often associated with increased security concerns.

CP Afegbua also reassured residents of the Command’s dedication to maintaining peace and safety across all communities. He urged the public to support the police and other security agencies by sharing timely and credible information that could aid in crime prevention and control.

The arrest and recovery mark a significant step in the Command’s broader strategy to tackle illegal arms and ensure a safer Cross River State.
