Breast Cancer Awareness Takes Center Stage as First Lady Flags Off Go Pink Africa 2025 Campaign

In a powerful show of solidarity and commitment to women’s health, the Go Pink Africa 2025 campaign was officially launched in Cross River State under the theme "Rip Off Breast Cancer." The event, which aims to raise awareness and promote early detection of breast cancer, was flagged off by Her Excellency Bishop EyoAnwan Bassey Otu, First Lady of Cross River State, who was represented by Amb. Mrs. Etim Asido, wife of the Odukpani Local Government Council Chairman.

The campaign is a collaborative effort spearheaded by Dr. Nchiewi Ani's Pink Africa Foundation, in partnership with the Office of the First Lady, the Cross River State Ministry of Health, the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), various NGOs, donors, and community partners. Together, these organizations are united in their mission to combat a disease that continues to affect countless lives across the globe.

Key figures from the state government were present at the launch, including Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Nursing; Dr. Inyang Asibong, Special Adviser to the Governor on Gender Mainstreaming; and Dr. Minika Hagan-Okon, President of the MWAN Cross River State branch. Also in attendance was Elder Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, representing the Commissioner for Health, alongside other prominent political appointees and community leaders.

The initiative highlights the state government’s growing focus on public health, particularly in addressing challenges that disproportionately impact women. By promoting education, screening, and early intervention, the Go Pink Africa 2025 campaign seeks to reduce the stigma surrounding breast cancer and empower women with the knowledge they need to protect themselves.

With its bold theme and strong coalition of stakeholders, the campaign is poised to become a significant force in the fight against breast cancer in Nigeria—offering hope, support, and action to communities across the nation.
