It was a moment of celebration and pride at the Cross River State Police Command as the Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, PSC, mnips, decorated newly promoted senior officers in a colourful ceremony held at the Police Officers’ Mess, Moore Road, Calabar.

The promotions, which were approved by the Police Service Commission (POLSCOM) following the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeola Egbetokun, NPM, Ph.D., saw several officers ascend to new ranks in recognition of their dedication, professionalism, and distinguished service.

Among those honoured were seven (7) Superintendents of Police (SPs) who were promoted to Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs), including the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ugbo Irene.
Also decorated were twenty-two (22) Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) elevated to the rank of Superintendents of Police (SPs), among them the Deputy Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Igri Ewa.
In addition, one hundred and ninety-seven (197) unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP II) were confirmed as ASPs I, including ASP James Ogbeh, Personal Assistant to the Commissioner of Police.

The event attracted members of the Command’s Management Team, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, Heads of Departments, as well as families and friends of the newly promoted officers. The hall brimmed with joy, applause, and heartfelt emotion as colleagues and guests celebrated the achievements of their own.

In his address, CP Rashid Afegbua congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to see their elevation as a “call to greater service and renewed commitment.”
He reminded them that promotion comes with increased responsibility, encouraging them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and discipline.

“Your promotion is not just a reward, but a renewed call to serve with honesty, courage, and respect for human rights. The Nigeria Police Force must continue to embody discipline, service, and adherence to the rule of law,” CP Afegbua said.

He further charged the officers to remain steadfast and to justify the trust reposed in them by the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission.

Speaking on behalf of all the promoted officers, CSP Uchai Odiakose G expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Service Commission, and the State Commissioner of Police for finding them worthy of the honour.

“We are deeply grateful for this recognition and the confidence placed in us. We assure the leadership of our unwavering dedication to duty and our commitment to serve the nation diligently,” he said.

The event concluded with heartfelt prayers, warm embraces, and photographs as the newly promoted officers celebrated with their loved ones and colleagues, marking what many described as a “harvest of elevation” for the Cross River State Police Command.
