Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau on Tuesday met with Ecuador’s Foreign Minister, Gabriela Sommerfeld, on the sidelines of the Critical Minerals Ministerial held in Washington, D.C.
According to a statement attributed to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, the meeting focused on shared priorities between the United States and Ecuador, including efforts to curb illegal immigration, promote economic prosperity, and deepen economic cooperation. Discussions also highlighted collaboration in the area of critical minerals.
During the engagement, Deputy Secretary Landau reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to working closely with Ecuador to advance regional stability and growth. He emphasised Washington’s continued partnership with Quito in promoting a safer, more secure, and more prosperous Western Hemisphere.
The meeting underscored the ongoing diplomatic engagement between both countries and their shared resolve to strengthen cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
