The Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed deep sympathy with the Government and people of Kano State following a devastating fire at Singer Market.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abeokuta, Abiodun described the blaze — which reportedly destroyed goods and properties valued at more than ₦5 billion — as one of the most unfortunate tragedies in the market’s history.
The inferno, which broke out at the bustling commercial hub, also affected over 1 000 businesses and left seven people missing, according to local reports.
Abiodun commiserated with traders who lost valuable stock and assets, urging them not to lose hope. He also assured that the Kano State Government was taking necessary steps to support affected market participants.
“On behalf of my colleagues in the Southern Governors’ Forum, I commiserate with the Kano State Government and the traders affected by this unfortunate incident,” he said, emphasising the resilience of those whose livelihoods were impacted.
The governor additionally called on market authorities and local government officials to implement stronger safety measures to help prevent similar incidents in future.
