Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested a suspected criminal linked to an attack on a resident in Benue State.

According to the military, the suspect was apprehended during a targeted operation in Agasha Village, Guma Local Government Area of the state. The operation followed intelligence reports about an assault on a resident identified as Shaapera Seeta Michael.

Military authorities said troops were mobilised on March 13, 2026, after receiving credible information about the incident. On arrival in the community, the soldiers conducted a coordinated search aimed at locating those responsible for the attack.

During the operation, the troops arrested a suspect believed to be connected to the assault. A weapon described as a locally fabricated rifle was also recovered from the individual.

Officials said the suspect is currently in custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The army reiterated its commitment to maintaining security in Benue and urged residents to continue providing credible information that could help security agencies combat criminal activities in the state.

Benue has experienced recurring security challenges in recent years, including attacks on rural communities and clashes linked to armed groups, prompting intensified military operations across affected areas.
