The Cross River State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the National Emergency Management Agency to improve disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness and response across the state.
The assurance was given by the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Boundary Committee, Peter Odey, during a courtesy visit by a delegation from NEMA led by the Assistant Director of Operations for the Abuja/Uyo Operations Office, Labaran Ahman, at the Deputy Governor's Office in Calabar.
Odey commended NEMA for its proactive interventions and sustained collaboration with the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, noting that disaster preparedness remains a key priority of Governor Bassey Otu's administration in its efforts to protect lives and property.
He said the state government remained committed to building resilient communities through effective collaboration with relevant agencies and development partners.
The deputy governor also assured the agency of the state's full support for the successful implementation of its programmes and activities, stressing that the government was ready to work closely with NEMA and other stakeholders to safeguard lives, protect livelihoods and enhance community resilience across Cross River.
Earlier, Ahman explained that the NEMA delegation was in the state on three strategic assignments, including briefing the government on ongoing and planned activities, seeking continued support for the agency's operations and strengthening collaboration on disaster risk reduction initiatives.
