Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared an end to the prolonged political crisis in the state, announcing his support for President Bola Tinubu's second-term bid and the political coalition championed by his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Speaking on Wednesday during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Riven Medical Industries Project in Port Harcourt, Fubara said the reconciliation marked a new chapter for Rivers State as political leaders had resolved their differences in the interest of peace and development.
The governor also threw his weight behind the governorship ambition of the All Progressives Congress candidate in the state, Kingsley Chinda, describing him as the candidate he would support in the 2027 elections.
Fubara said he had joined the Rainbow Coalition, a political group initiated by Wike to strengthen the APC in Rivers State, adding that anyone who believed in his leadership should support the coalition and its candidates.
"We have made peace in the state, and I'm supporting our Rainbow Coalition. President Bola Tinubu is our President, and is the one we are supporting," the governor said.
He added that Kingsley Chinda remained his preferred governorship candidate and urged his supporters across the state to rally behind him and every other candidate contesting under the Rainbow Coalition.
The governor's declaration signals what appears to be a formal end to the political hostilities that had divided Rivers State following the fallout between him and Wike, a dispute that led to divisions within the State House of Assembly, impeachment threats and months of political tension.
Fubara also appealed to host communities and the leadership of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area to support the Riven Medical Industries Project and avoid actions capable of disrupting its operations.
He assured investors that his administration would continue to provide the necessary backing to ensure the success of the project, which is being developed as a public-private partnership between the Rivers State Government and Enbay Pharmaceutical Industries Limited.
