The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has questioned the embattled Director General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, Adeniyi Adeyemi, while he remained in police detention over allegations linked to the operations of the alleged fictitious government agency.
The interrogation forms part of the ongoing investigation ordered by President Bola Tinubu into the activities of the council, which the Presidency has maintained was never established by the Federal Government and has no legal backing. The President directed the ICPC to investigate the matter and submit its findings within 30 days.
Adeyemi is facing criminal charges filed by the Nigeria Police, including allegations of forgery, impersonation and related offences. Prosecutors allege that he falsely presented himself as the Director General of the council, used forged government documents and operated the organisation from an office within the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja.
According to the investigation, the anti corruption agency is examining the alleged use of forged appointment letters and official documents, efforts to obtain official recognition and diplomatic support through false claims of presidential appointment, the opening of bank accounts in the names of purported government agencies, and the possible involvement of other individuals or institutions that may have facilitated the scheme.
Adeyemi has denied wrongdoing and insisted he is prepared to defend himself in court. He has also maintained that he is not evading the authorities despite concerns raised over his security.
The investigation into the alleged fake agency has attracted widespread public attention following revelations that the organisation reportedly secured office space within the Federal Secretariat and appeared in the 2026 Appropriation Act with a budgetary allocation despite lacking legal recognition.
