Military personnel attached to Operation Fansan Yamma have killed a suspected terrorist during an attack in Sokoto State and thwarted a abduction plot in Zamfara State, freeing six members of a single family.
Sokoto Hideout Raid
In Sokoto, soldiers from Sector 2 executed a targeted raid on a terrorist enclave near Karani village in Gudu Local Government Area, acting on credible intelligence regarding insurgent movement in the locality. Upon making contact, troops confronted the armed group with heavy firepower, killing one suspect while others escaped into the surrounding woodland.
Recovered items from the Sokoto hideout include:
One AK-47 rifle loaded with live ammunition
An operational motorcycle
Military camouflage uniforms
Maintenance tools and additional logistical materials
Speaking on the raid on Sunday, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, spokesman for the 8 Division, highlighted that the offensive demonstrates the capability and determination of Operation Fansan Yamma to disrupt terrorist operations across the region. He added that troops immediately launched follow-up clearance operations in the surrounding forest to ensure the fleeing insurgents could not regroup.
Zamfara Kidnap Prevention
In a separate, coordinated action in Zamfara State, personnel from the 17 Brigade intervened to foil a kidnapping attempt in Tsafe Local Government Area. Responding to a distress call reporting an ongoing assault, troops confronted the assailants, forcing them to retreat and abandon six abducted members of the same family.
All six victims were rescued unharmed, evaluated for medical care, and safely reunited with their relatives.
The dual actions reflect the military's ongoing security campaign across Northwest Nigeria aimed at dismantling criminal enclaves and countering the threat of mass abductions.
