MY LITTLE MEMBER BY ONYEYIRICHI CHRISTABEL UCHENDU

Enclosed in what seem like a pit, yet possessing the power of life and death.
Little, yet endowed with the ability to set ablaze a community or build it up, able to make or mar its owner, able to break hearts, able to tear down, yet also able to strengthen the weak.
Its results are dependent on how it is used, either wisely to build, mold and encourage or foolishly to tear down, break and discourage.
The tongue is a little member of the body, just an organ according to scientist. But, if not bridled can wipe away a nation.
Words said are like age, it cannot be reversed. When spoken, it cannot be erased from the minds of the hearers; its effects are enormous and devastating. Hence, the need to bridle the tongue.
“…Every idle talk will be judged” according to the scripture in Matthew 12:36.
We cannot tell whom we kill with our tongue, its bullets are fatal and its flame unquenchable if it is not bridled. “Weigh your words before you speak them” my father will always say. What might seem like jokes to us might make others have sleepless nights, so bridle your tongue.
Never be in a haste to speak, especially when you are angry, words said in anger cannot be recollected. Learn to say nothing until you are calm. “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks” Luke 6:45 – This, therefore means that words spoken in anger are a product of accumulated thoughts. They don’t just come, they are things that have occupied our minds – Bridle your tongue, let your words edify others.
Proverbs chapter 15 teaches how to bridle the tongue, say good things instead of bad things, positive and not negative things. Life is what you call it and what you say to yourself has a grip on you.
And research have shown that most children gradually become what their parents continually call them – useless, stupid, goat etc. we can also mold our children’s future with our tongue, therefore bridle your tongue.
God our creator spoke things into being, that implies that we possess such power and are able to call things into being with our tongue. But, we have the power to choices to create the right or wrong future. You can either create a goat from your child or a great personality. All depends on how you use your tongue.
Colossians 4:6 “LET YOUR SPEECH ALWAYS BE WITH GRACE, SEASONED WITH SALT, THAT YE MAY KNOW HOW TO ANSWER EVERY MAN.”
James 3:2 – 14 teaches extensively about the tongue. Verse 10 says;
“…OUT OF THE SAME MOUTH PROCEED BLESSING AND CURSING, MY BRETHREN, IT OUGHT NOT BE SO.”
“My little member” - The tongue, little yet, boasting great thing. It is a fire, the world of iniquity. Yet, a little member of the body. It can break and it can make, it can destroy and it can put together, it can kill and it can heal, can put one’s life in misery and can also bring one out of misery. So, you decide what your tongue will do for you and the people around you.
God bless you.
