The Governorship Position Of C’River State Must Move To The Southern Senatorial District Come May 29th, 2023 - Rt. Hon. George Oben-Etchi


The Chairman of the Southern Solidarity Front Cross River State, Rt. Hon. George Oben-Etchi has stated emphatically that come May 29th 2023, the governorship position must move to the Southern Senatorial District. This was contained in the text of the World Press Conference held by the Southern Solidarity Front on Thursday 25th February, 2021 in Calabar with the theme “Cross River State Governorship 2023: Power Rotation to the Southern Senatorial District, An Equitable And Fair Position For All”



He also called on all political parties in the state to ensure that only candidates from the south emerge in the political parties

“Our Position is very clear, and that position is that come May 29th 2023, the governorship position must move to the Southern Senatorial District. We are calling on all the political parties in the state to ensure that they do the same thing and ensure that only candidates from the south emerge in those political parties” he said.




As members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) family in the Cross River State, we like to say that we belief that the leadership of Senator Ben Ayade as the leader of both parties in the state must be respected. We also believe that everyone must understand that we cannot have more than one captain in a ship at a time, and for now as far as that fact remains, the leader of the parties remain the Governor of the state. We cannot change that now” he added.

He further called on every member of the PDP family to remain calm and understand that this leadership is not all about who gains now and work solidly behind the governor.



Also speaking, the Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Cross River State Chapter Mr. Daniel Obo mentioned that come 2023 no other Senatorial District is suitable to produce a governorship candidate apart from the Southern Senatorial District. 

“The decision of the governor coming from the south, I am very sure we started the campaign, it is in our place to ensure that the system that has been so instituted, that have brought peace and development should be followed so we can also bring peace in our generation and grow people in our generation. I there reaffirm that under the leadership of the Youth Council, I am telling you that it is not possible to produce a governor that is not from the south” He said.

He further mentioned that for the past few months they have been going from local government to local government with a very simple message “As a generation, we will support a governor from the south he added.
