Sen. Gershom Bassey donates minibus to UNICAL SUG for hostel shuttle

The Senator representing Cross River South, Sen. Gershom Bassey, has donated a minibus to the Student Union Government of the University of Calabar for hostel shuttle.

The mini-bus is to be used in conveying students to their hostels, mostly at night.

Students of the University of Calabar who have accommodation in the hostels usually stand around the University's main gate at night to plead for a car 'lift' to the hostel which has been tagged "Hostel Please".

The mini-bus will curb the rate of students who are been attacked or either robbed by some stranger elements on the pretence of giving them a lift.

The donation came on the heels of the visit and request made by the former VP of SUG, Abasi-Ofiok Akpabio, who had visited the Senator to request for the bus while she was still in office as VP.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, who unveiled the minibus for use, commended the Senator for his show of love, care and concern for students of the University of Calabar.

Prof. Obi urged the current SUG administration to emulate the steps of the former VP of SUG by attracting more benefits to the students.

The immediate past VP confirmed to the Vice-Chancellor that Senator Gershom Bassey supported her with the minibus, hence she has to present it to the University for incredible benefits of the new SUG administration.
