This assurance was given during a courtesy visit on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, when CP Afegbua received the State Executive members of the Police Retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) at the Command Headquarters in Calabar.
The delegation was led by SP Iwara Ibiang (Rtd.), representing the State Chairman, DSP Ofem Obeten Mbang (Rtd), who also serves as the National Legal Adviser of the Association. Also present was ASP Peter Andiemen (Rtd), Assistant Secretary.
During the meeting, the retirees presented several pressing concerns, which included:
-
A demand for the removal of police retirees from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS);
-
Concerns over poor retirement benefits;
-
Notification of plans for a nationwide peaceful protest scheduled to commence on July 21, 2025.
In response, CP Afegbua commended the delegation for their respectful and peaceful approach. He urged them to maintain decorum and continue to conduct themselves lawfully as they advocate for their cause. CP Afegbua further assured them that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, Ph.D, is engaging at the highest levels to ensure that police officers enjoy a dignified and satisfactory retirement.
He advised the retirees to refrain from engaging in any form of protest and instead continue dialogue with the appropriate authorities.
The meeting was attended by members of the Command’s Management Team and representatives of the retirees, and concluded with a symbolic group photograph.
