Youth-Police Collaboration Leads to Recovery of Stolen Vehicle in Odukpani

In a commendable display of community policing, the Cross River State Police Command has recovered a stolen mini-bus and arrested two suspects, thanks to the swift collaboration between local youths and law enforcement officers in Odukpani Local Government Area.

The vehicle, a Cross River State-coloured mini-bus with registration number KTE 239 ZY, was reportedly snatched from its owner, Mr. Nsa Bassey Bassey of No. 19 Johnson Ishie Street, Calabar, along the Awi-Odukpani road at approximately 8:40 p.m. on 3 October 2025.



Following the report lodged at the Odukpani Police Division, officers teamed up with the vehicle owner, the youth leader, and members of the Ekim Ebebet community to launch a coordinated search. Their efforts led to the interception of the stolen vehicle and the arrest of two male suspects: Utibe Nse Solomon, 26, and Emmanuel Effiong, 27, both originally from Akwa Ibom State but residing in Akpabuyo.

During a search of the suspects, police recovered a kitchen knife and dried hot pepper, items believed to have been in their possession at the time of the arrest.

Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, PSC, MNIPS, praised the youths for their proactive involvement, describing the operation as a successful example of community policing. He reiterated that security is a shared responsibility and encouraged residents to continue partnering with law enforcement to keep Cross River State safe.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state, working hand-in-hand with citizens to uphold law and order.
